Rashmi was left alone to care for herself and her two children when her husband Chandra left, moved to another area and married another woman.
Forced to work to earn an income for her family, Rashmi became a day labourer. Little work was available, and her family struggled to survive.
Months later, Chandra returned to their village. Breaking into his former home during the night, Chandra doused Rashmi with petrol and set her on fire. She suffered major burns and was hospitalised for three weeks.
She has since fully recovered, and Chandra is imprisoned for attempted murder.
Aid Distribution International assisted Rashmi by providing for the education of her children so that they will be able to pursue careers that will benefit the family. Aid Distribution International has also funded the rebuilding of the family home, which was in disrepair.
