While access to drinking water in India has increased over the past decade, the adverse impact of unsafe water on health continues. The World Bank estimates 21% of communicable diseases in India are water-related.
The highest mortality from diarrhoea is in children under the age of five, highlighting an urgent need for focused interventions in this age group.
Despite investment in water and sanitation infrastructure, many low-income communities continue to lack access to safe drinking water. Often villagers are forced to draw water for drinking, cooking and washing from stagnant pools, which carries a risk of disease.
Aid Distribution International, with the help of our supporters, is supplying clean drinking water to ten villages in India by providing ten deep wells. Four deep wells have already been completed, with inauguration works finished for a further four.
